The College of Veterinary
Medicine was established as a department
under the College of Agriculture in
1989, and developed into the College
in 1994. The undergraduate courses changed into
a six-year curriculum in 1998. The educational
aim focuses on providing qualified veterinarians
for Korean society through intensive education.
The major scientific departments are classified
into four categories: pre-vet, basic, preventive,
and clinical veterinary medicine. After
completing undergraduate courses, the
students are then qualified to apply for
the national examination for the board of
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.).
In addition to private practice, professional
careers waiting for the board holders include
those in universities, government, pharmaceutical,
chemical or food companies, military officers
in food hygiene research institutes, etc.
There are currently 23 professors in our
faculty.
The main goals of the
department are as follows:
1. To educate specialists
with the requisite knowledge to treat all
kinds of animal patients 2. To educate
specialists to play a crucial rule in improving
national health conditions and the prevention
of notifiable infectious diseases such as
AI, BSE, foot-and-mouth disease, etc.
3. To educate specialists to play a
role in testing the effectiveness and safety
of all newly developed pharmaceuticals,
chemicals, or bio materials 4. To educate
specialists to play a crucial role in generative
engineering such as cloning, organ transplants,
and stem cell research 5. To educate
specialists to preserve the environment
and animals in nature 6. To educate
specialists to contribute to productivity
improvement in farms through the development
of medications, treatments and diagnostic
methods based on molecular biology and genetic
engineering 7. To educate specialists
with a sense of social mission and high
ethical standards which meet WVT, FVE, and
AVMA standards
