Institute of Nano Science and Technology Obtains U.S. Patent for “Next-generation 4G Genetic Decoding Nano-biosystem Technology”

The Institute of Nano Science and Technology (Director & Prof. Jung-Bum Chae, Dept. of Physics Education) obtained a U.S. patent for the next-generation 4G genetic sequencing analysis system using nano-technology.

This international patent is an emerging 4G nano-bio convergence technology created by applying an ultra-high sensitive nano-device sensing technology that can detect ultrafine electric charges, 1/10,000th of a single electron in size. It allows low-cost, high-speed genetic base decoding by streamlining the complicated pre- and post-processing processes involved in the 2-G technology that depends on existing chemical and optical methods.

Since prototype products realized in accordance with the present patent allow the use of highly efficient genetic activity analysis, mutation analysis, and molecular diagnosis, the new technology is expected to supersede its competing products, expand the existing product lineup, and achieve dominance in the global healthcare market related to existing 2G genetic analysis.

The Institute of Nano Science and Technology retains seven (7) U.S. patents, including the present patent, for nano electronic device/circuit technology, nano-bio convergence system, and quantum computing systems technology.
