Current Courses Hist of Mod & Contemp Art Lec PLAH 2600, Fall 2022
Research Interests Modern and contemporary art, visual culture, site specific practice; art and language, art and literature, art history and studio practice.
Rory has been teaching at Parsons since 2014. He is a scholar of modern and contemporary art, and serves as the course coordinator for the Integrative Seminar and Advanced Research Seminar in ADHT. Alongside his teaching, he has been actively engaged with the development of Parsons’ core curriculum through his work on the recently launched Advanced Research Seminar and a new survey of the History of Modern Art to be launched in Fall 2016. Rory received his Ph.D. in art history from the Institute of Fine Arts, and his dissertation produced an interdisciplinary study of Robert Smithson in connection to science fiction, postmodern literature, and the 1960s counter culture. Rory’s research explores the intersection of visual art, literature, and language, with a focus on the 1960s and 1970s, and these scholarly interests significantly inform his pedagogy of writing within an art and design studio context. He has previously taught at the Yale University School of Art’s MFA program, and also served as the drawings researcher at the Whitney Museum of American Art and as a curatorial assistant at NYU’s Grey Art Gallery and the Morgan Library and Museum. |
